THE CONDITION OF ARABS BEFORE ISLAM

Historians call the Arab era before the advent of Islam the Age of Ignorance, but the modern Arab countries are among the richest and most powerful in the world. They have a wealth of oil. The world wants cordial and friendly relations with the Arab countries. At the time of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, most of the Arabian Peninsula consisted of deserts with sandstorms, but southern Arabia was fertile due to the monsoon rains. The Arabian Peninsula consisted of present-day Saudi Arabia, Yemen, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain. In those days, no one could have imagined that any new religion would emerge from these uninhabited, non-religious areas and tribes, making these savage tribes so sectarian that they would begin to rule the world.

Before Islam, Arabs were idolaters. Lat, Manat and Azi were his popular idols while the largest idol Hubble was installed on the roof of  Kaaba. At the same time, they did not have the concept of God in their minds. They all believed that idols were the means of approaching God. It is as if the Arab tribes were involved in open polytheism. They also worshipped the sun, moon, stars, rocks and fire. Among the Arabs of the pre-Islamic era, there were tribes that believed in Christianity, Judaism, Magianism and Christianity, but there were also tribes of the Hanif religion, ie, the Abrahamic religion, but they did not know what the Abrahamic religion is. The inspired books were not preserved and were so distorted that it was impossible to distinguish between the original inspired book and the transcribed book. Every religion was based on the system of Salat and Zakat, but little was known about it.

Ibn Ishaq writes that once in the annual festival of an idol, Warqa bin Nawfal (cousin of Hazrat Khadijah), Abdullah Ibn Hajash (nephew of Hazrat Hamza), Usman bin Al-Hawarith and Zaid bin Amr Anhuma {Hazrat omer's uncle} attended an idol ceremony. Suddenly a thought came to their minds that it is absurd that we bow our heads before a rock which neither hears nor sees nor can harm anyone nor can it benefit anyone. All of them belonged to the Qarash family.

The Arabs were mostly traders. Their trade caravans also went to other countries. The Arabian Peninsula was a well-known trade route. Arab Bedouins and camels were the only means of transportation on this trade route. As people from other countries were not accustomed to travelling in the deserts, they depended on the Arabs. Hot spices, pepper, ginger, ivory, fragrant herbs and silk fabrics were important trade items. Trade caravans of hundreds of camels would leave with armed men to guard them. There were also annual trade fairs in Mecca. Industry and agriculture were scarce. Sheep and goat grazing were commonplace.

Arab nomads were accustomed to the lifestyle, where they could camp with greenery and water. The political and social conditions were deteriorating. Society was in decline. The state of anxiety and chaos was prominent. The people were divided into masters and slaves and rulers and subjects. Robbery and murder were common. There was no concept of court and law. There was no freedom of expression. The man had fallen from his place to such an extent that he had no awareness of the rights of Allah and the rights of worshipers.  The girls were buried alive.

He would kidnap and sell savage Arab women and children. After the battle, he would cut off the noses and ears of the corpses and make a necklace around their necks. Burn the prisoners alive. So savage that they would cut the flesh of a living animal and fry it and eat it. The custom of keeping slaves and handmaids were common.

The wives of the deceased father were inherited by the son. He used to marry his father's wife. Usury, alcoholism, and adultery were common. Workers and peasants were trapped in the clutches of usurers. The Arabs were very proud of their language. The passion for poetry was also on the rise. The Arabs are ignorant. Despite this, he also had the qualities of self-respect and self-respect. Demonstrated courage and bravery during the war while enduring and enduring hardships.
